The 15-year-old girl who was hit by a bullet on New Year's eve in Malabon died due to "severe brain injury," her official medical abstract states.
According to the medical abstract released Friday, the final diagnosis on Emilyn Villanueva was that she suffered "severe brain injury due to cerebrovascular injury, intracerebral hemorrhage, traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage due to penetrating traumatic brain injury from slug lodged intracranially."
Villanueva passed away Wednesday evening after four days of fighting for her life at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center. She sustained a gunshot wound in her head.
Authorities are still at odds on whether Villanueva was a victim of discriminate firing, as the police says, or of a stray bullet, as the Department of Health asserts.
Charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide have been filed against Renato Sy, who allegedly shot at a barangay tanod but the bullet hit Villanueva instead. Authorities have yet to locate him.
The ballistics and autopsy reports related to her death have been submitted to the National Bureau of Investigation, but the results have yet to be released to the public.
