COTABATO CITY - Police are pursuing at least 2 suspects who may be involved in the New Year’s Eve bombing outside a mall here that killed at least 2 people and injured several others.
The suspects were seen at the second floor of the mall carrying a small container similar to the size of a beauty cream, said Supt. Oliver Modias, chief of Special Investigation Task Group Southseas.
CCTV footage from the mall showed the men left the small package near a Lotto outlet, he said.
A saleslady found the container, showed it to another person and called the police, he said.
The package contained another improvised explosive device, but was detonated by authorities, he said.
Military officials earlier said the bomb design was similar to explosives assembled by the Daulah Islamiyah, an Islamic State-inspired group in Southern Philippines.
But police officials said they have yet to identify a particular group responsible for the attack.
The city government has offered a P500,000 reward for anyone who would provide information that would lead to the arrest of those responsible for the bombing.
