MANILA—Foreign Affairs Sec. Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Saturday said the Philippines should stop its visa-free policy for foreigners, even if the United States has yet to enforce a travel ban against jailers of a Filipino lawmaker.
"Visa free, visas upon arrival, they are wrong. Every country is entitled to control their borders and we just gave it up," Locsin said on DZMM's "Omaga-Diaz Reports."
"We just to have to stop that already, but I know there is a reason. What's the reason?" he added, while making the coin gesture with his thumb and index finger.
Locsin also belied reports that a resolution that pushed for a travel ban against Filipinos involved in the detention of opposition Senator Leila de Lima would soon take effect.
"In the United States appropriations act, there is no mention of De Lima, of a visa," Locsin said.
"It is in a resolution... from the Senate. It is a separate body."
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo earlier said that the US travel ban against De Lima's jailers was real.
