December 2018 inflation numbers are set to come out. And the murder of Rep. Rodel Batocabe is confirmed as a political killing. Here are the stories making the headlines on ANC today:

The ANC Brief: Electoral violence 1

Inflationary risks

Economic managers are set to present the December 2018 inflation numbers in a press conference at 9 a.m. The predictions place the figure at six percent or even lower. But there are still inflationary risks. ANC will be ready to air the press conference and provide analysis.

Political killing

The PNP points at Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo as the alleged mastermind in the killing of Rep. Rodel Batocabe. But Baldo denied any involvement. In his last speech, President Duterte threatened to slap Baldo. Both the President and PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde warned politicians from resorting to violence in the next elections. Can these warnings stem the incidents of election-related violence and the existence of private armies in the coming May polls?

Soaring death toll

The death toll from Usman soared to 122, according to numbers from the NDRRMC. This makes Usman the deadliest storm to hit the country in 2018. Agriculture damage is estimated at P300 million. Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo insisted that all preparations were undertaken for Usman.

Safe travel?

The Palace insisted its safe travel to Mindanao despite travel advisories issued by the United Kingdom and Australia. But the bombers who perpetrated the Cotabato City attack are still on the loose.

Taking a stand

Former Foreign Affairs Sec. Albert del Rosario said the Philippine government should support Vietnam’s position on negotiations on a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea that would outlaw many actions of Beijing in the region.
