MANILA - Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II said the Chinese companion of Lt. Col. Ferdinand Marcelino, a former anti-narcotics agent tagged in a P380 million illegal drugs case, surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday.

Aguirre said Yan surrendered to the NBI Special Task Force headed by Moises Tamayo.

"We are proud to announce that Yan Yi Shuo a.k.a Randy is now under the custody of the NBI. This is a welcome development insofar as our pursuit of this case is concerned," Aguirre said.

The Manila Regional Trial Court's Branch 49 earlier issued warrants of arrest against Marcelino and Yan.

Marcelino surrendered to the Armed Forces of the Philippines on Tuesday and is seeking to remain in custody of the military.

Marcelino and Yan were arrested on January 21, 2016 during a raid in a "shabu" laboratory in Sta. Cruz, Manila. 76.7 kilograms of "shabu" and 490-milliliters of "shabu" were seized in the operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Marcelino, a former PDEA official and known anti-drug advocate, claimed he was in the area also on anti-drug operation. The DOJ had initially junked the case against him and Yan, but later reversed the resolution.
