SAN JOSE, Antique – A 23-year-old man was shot dead during a buy bust operation in Barangay Funda-Dalipe on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Jovanny Ballenas of Barangay Palma Barbaza, Antique.

Police said Ballenas shot at police using a 357 caliber pistol, prompting law enforcers to fire back.

Authorities were able to recover a total of three sachets of suspected shabu, the P1,000 buy bust money, his gun and one hand grenade.

Two identification cards bearing the name of the Moro National Liberation Front were found inside his bag. In the IDs, Ballenas was identified as a member of the striking force of the MNLF.

The San Jose Antique Police will endorse the IDs to the Police Regional Office 6 which would then turn over the same to the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Police Regional Office in Mindanao for verification of its authenticity.

Police officials have yet to meet with the suspect’s family. They said Ballenas has a sister in San Jose but they could not locate her whereabouts.
