PALAWAN – At least 88 passengers and crew members of a cargo vessel were rescued off the waters of Sofronio Española in Palawan.
The passengers, including 31 minors and 12 crew members were onboard distressed M/L Chowe, a cargo passenger vessel on Monday.
Lieutenant Commander Dorothy Manglicmot, Philippine Coast Guard-Palawan spokesman said the vessel departed from Puerto Princesa Port en route to Mangsee, Balabac on January 1. It experienced issues in the vessel's radar.
The Philippine Coast Guard Brooke’s Point Unit immediately conducted rescue operations.
They were immediately brought to Brooke's Point Municipal Health Office for a medical check-up. Fortunately, all passengers and crew members were in good condition.
Meanwhile, the cargo passenger vessel operator was advised to provide a certificate of sea worthiness to ensure that the incident will not happen again.
