PALAWAN - Twelve Chinese fishermen are waiting to be deported to China after they were acquitted for poaching in Tubbataha Reef.
The fishermen are currently residing in an apartment in Puerto Princesa City, according to Ferdinand Tendenilla, acting Alien Officer of Bureau of Immigration-Palawan.
Local immigration officials are still waiting for the travel documents and deportation papers of the fishermen from the main office and once these are done, immigration personnel in Palawan will bring them to Manila for deportation.
Tendenilla added that the 12 fishermen may be deported to China within the week.
Meanwhile, Tubbataha Reef personnel believe that the acquittal was a mistake, and that the filing of a special civil action before the Supreme Court is in order.
The Chinese fishermen were turned over to the Bureau of Immigration in Palawan last December 19.
