Fire destroyed the North Fairview, Quezon City home of Philippine music icon Freddie Aguilar Tuesday night, destroying an estimated P20 million in property.
Photos taken by ABS-CBN reporters Jekki Pascual and Isay Reyes show only the charred remains of Aguilar's home, which once housed his numerous awards, paintings and even the original recording of his hit song "Anak."
Aguilar said he is saddened by the incident since he wanted to leave many of the collector's items to his grandchildren. Only one guitar was saved from the fire.
"Iyong mga CD na pinaghirapan ko, ewan ko kung buhay mga records sana. Nandiyan iyong mga bestseller ko na album, mga di pa nabuksan," Aguilar said.
"Pero OK lang, at least walang buhay na nawala."
The Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire started at the music room on the ground floor of the Aguilar residence past 11 p.m. and quickly spread to the second floor.
Aguilar's wife and mother-in-law had to use the balcony and jump towards the roof of a neighbor's home to escape the fire.
The fire was declared out by 11:38 p.m.
