MANILA - Malacañang on Wednesday said the proposal sent by a lawyer for a compromise deal for the return of a portion of the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcoses has no value as it was not sanctioned by the family of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
Lawyer Oliver Lozano, a supporter of the Marcos family, earlier submitted to Malacañang a draft proposal for the return of a part of the Marcoses’ wealth to the government.
Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo confirmed receiving the proposal but denied that the Palace has acted on it. Roque, likewise, said no compromise agreement has been reached between the government and the Marcoses.
Roque added the proposal may be considered invalid as it was not authorized by the Marcos family.
“Nagsalita na po iyong kapamilya ni dating Presidente Ferdinand Marcos, wala raw pong otoridad si Atty. Lozano na maggawa ng ganyang proposal,” he said in a radio interview.
“So wala pong saysay iyong kanyang proposal ngayon, dahil hindi naman siya pupuwedeng magsulong ng isang proposal na hindi po kinikilala ng mga heredero ng dating Presidente.”
It was Duterte, a friend of the Marcoses, who first raised the possibility of striking a deal with the family for the return of a portion of their ill-gotten wealth.
He also said the Marcoses would not return the wealth without immunity.
