MANILA - Lt. Col. Ferdinand Marcelino, a former anti-narcotics official being linked to a multi-million peso illegal drug trade, has surrendered.

The Manila Regional Trial Court's Branch 49 earlier issued warrants of arrest against Marcelino and his Chinese asset, Yan Yi Shuo in connection with a P380-million drug case.

Marcelino and Yan were arrested on January 21, 2016 during a raid in a "shabu" laboratory in Sta. Cruz, Manila. 76.7 kilograms of "shabu" and 490-milliliters of "shabu" were seized in the operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Marcelino, a former PDEA official and known anti-drug advocate, claimed he was in the area also on anti-drug operation. The DOJ had initially junked the case against him and Yan, but later reversed the resolution.

The Public Attorney's Office (PAO), meantime, urged a reconsideration of the issuance of the warrant, and moved for the lifting of the same. - with Ina Reformina, ABS-CBN News
