MANILA—South Korea produced the most overseas visitors to the Philippines in 2019, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said in a statement.

Romulo-Puyat added that social media was a factor attracting tourists to the country, as was the opening of airports nationwide.

“Nakikita nila ’yung mga iba’t ibang tao, nakikita nila nagpo-post, nasa Siargao, nagse-surfing sila sa La Union. So nakikita nila maganda rin pala ang Pilipinas,” she said.
Other tourists who frequently visited the Philippines were from Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

The DOT did not provide the exact number of visitors per country.

The tourism department saw an increase in the number of foreign tourist arrivals between January and October 2019 from the same period in 2018.

2019 — 6,800,052
2018 — 5,911,161
2017 — 5,474,310

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said it is positive that the Philippines will reach its target of 8.2 million foreign tourist arrivals the DOT set this year.

The goal is 9.2 million foreign arrivals. — With a report from Sherrie Ann Torres, ABS-CBN News
