MANILA - The Philippines is battered every year by around 20 storms, which in 2019 will be given local names like Amang, Tisoy and Zigzag by the state weather bureau.
Below is PAGASA's list of possible names for this year's tropical cyclones.
A local typhoon name is decommissioned when losses amount to over P1 billion or when at least 300 are killed.
PAGASA has 4 sets of names recycled every 4 years. Each set has 10 auxiliary or "reserve" names used in case the number of tropical cyclones for the year exceeds 25.
This year's code names will also be used in 2023, 2027 and 2031.
The weather agency came out with the names after its "Name-a-Bagyo Contest" in 1999.
