MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered a "fair and thorough" investigation into the killing of a former lawmaker's ex-aide, Malacañang said Tuesday.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo also condemned the "brutal and brazen" slay of Richard Santillan, a bodyguard of former Biliran Rep. Glenn Chong, who was allegedly tortured before his death.
Police had claimed Santillan was killed along with a female companion in a shootout in Cainta, Rizal on Dec. 10 on suspicion that he was part of the Highway Boys criminal gang.
The President does not condone "erring men in uniform who grossly violate the law, Panelo said.
The chief of the Rizal Provincial Police was sacked following the incident and the Public Attorney's Office said it would file charges against policemen behind the alleged shootout.
