MANILA, Philippines – An improvised explosive device (IED) was safely recovered beside a police station in Cotabato City.
The explosive made out of a 60 millimeter mortar was found on a tree beside the Cotabato City Police station 2 along Don Rabago Street, Mother Barangay Rosary Heights at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Elements of the army's explosive ordinance disposal team immediately responded to the area and used water to disrupt the IED.
Police said two bystanders discovered the IED, which was placed inside a plastic bag with a timer. A cellphone was supposedly used as the triggering device.
Probers have yet to determine the motive and the suspects behind the incident.
On the same day, at around 6:30 p.m., a grenade exploded at Barangay Rosary Heights 4, which injured a man identified as Gani Uy.
