Fray Urdaneta's monument: A culmination of rediscovery and birth

PANGASINAN - President Arroyo with First Gentleman Mike Arroyo and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts led the project inspection of the monument of Fray Andres de Urdaneta in the plaza of Urdaneta City.

Four of the country's finest National Artists worked hard to build the monument: Sculptor Napoleon Abueva, sculptor Abdulmari Asia Imao, landscape artist Ildefonso Santos and writer Dr. lejandro Roses.

World renowned artist Ben Cabrera will also contribute a mural to the collective art design of the plaza.

The monument is set to be revealed on February 2009 during National Arts Month Celebration. This will also mark the culmination of the 500th Birth Anniversary of Fray Urdaneta who made major contributions to Philippine Arts and History.
