LEGASPI - Six people died after a fire erupted in Barangay Kimantong in Daraga, Albay on Saturday.
The six victims perished after their boarding house was hit by a fire that erupted in an adjacent canteen.
According to the canteen owner, a knife-wielding man ran amok and held two women hostage in the canteen.
The man burned some clothes and his own wallet, and then cut the hose of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank, triggering an explosion and fire.
One of the victims was identified as Angelina Potestante, who was just sleeping over at her friend’s place.
Apart from the six fire fatalities, the still unidentified suspect was also killed. One of the responding policemen shot him after he tried to fight back and stabbed one of the policemen.
