DAVAO CITY - Senator and vice presidential aspirant Alan Peter Cayetano said Wednesday that the public response to the word war between presidential hopefuls Mar Roxas and Rodrigo Duterte had gone out of control.

"Masyadong OA (over-acting) na," Cayetano said, referring to the public's reaction to Roxas and Duterte's word war.

The feud between the two presidential hopefuls started after Roxas said that peace and order is a myth in Davao. His statement caught the ire of the incumbent Davao City mayor.

In response, Duterte claimed that Roxas is not a graduate of the Wharton School of Economics at the University of Pennsylvania.

"You claim to have graduated from Wharton School of Economics. That is a myth -- you did not graduate sa Wharton School of Economics, Mr. Roxas. Wala doon sa listahan na naka-kumpleto ka ng 4 years o 5 years for a degree," Duterte said.

Roxas maintained that he earned his economics degree from Wharton.

Cayetano said the public should look at the context of Duterte's statement before reacting.

"Pakinggan muna ang buong speech bago mag react. Nandu'n ako, business community kaharap ni Mayor (Duterte)," Cayetano said.

"Tungkol sa Yolanda 'yung pinag-uusapan. Siguro, out of frustration, nasabi niya 'yun. The main point of Mayor Duterte is that don't oppress people and let's fix government.... I fully understand the sentiments of Mayor Duterte... I hope bumalik na sila sa main issue," Cayetano added.
