MANILA -- A tsunami scare forced residents of Basey, Samar to flee their homes late Wednesday evening.
The residents of the villages of Canmanila and Bacuba were forced to seek higher ground at around 10 p.m. after rumors circulated about an earthquake and a tsunami.
Some locals gathered in the streets while others fled to evacuation centers.
The residents said they could not help but be wary of such reports, even if unverified, due to the massive destruction wrought by super typhoon "Yolanda" in the Visayas.
They have since returned to their homes after confirming that no tsunami alert has been issued by authorities. -- Report from Jose Carretero, ABS-CBN News
