MANILA, Philippines - More lahar flowed from restive Mount Bulusan down to a river channel near houses in at least 2 villages in Irosin town, Sorsogon province, Saturday morning.
A radio dzMM report said that sediment-laden lahar flowed in Barangay Cogon and Monbon. The lahar flowed nearer the residents after the river channel overflowed due to strong rains.
Dredging operations have also begun in Barangay Cogon.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said its personnel are tracking down trees uprooted Thursday since these have to be removed to avoid diverting the lahar flow from the volcano.
The Phivolcs said in a bulletin issued Saturday that it recorded 11 earthquakes around the volcano on Friday.
One of the earthquakes was "explosion-type," which was detected at 7:27 p.m. and lasted for 11 minutes, it added.
"No rumbling sound was heard and no ashfall was observed at areas beyond four kilometers from the crater," Phivolcs said.
The Phivolcs continued to warn residents to avoid entering the 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone because it is at risk to sudden steam and ash explosions.
Airplanes were still banned from hovering close to the volcano's summit because of possible sudden ash explosion.
