MANILA - The wife of Agusan del Norte 2nd District Rep. Erlpe John Amante has filed concubinage charges against the lawmaker and his alleged mistress, saying she could no longer bear the insults and the pain they have caused her and her children.
Mrs. Judy Amante, accompanied by her lawyer, also filed charges against her husband for violating the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act before the prosecutor's office in Cabadbaran City.
Mrs. Amante pointed out that what used to be a private family matter has reached the public after her husband openly encouraged his alleged mistress, Katrina Mortola, to run for mayor of Cabadbaran City.
Mrs. Amante is also running for city mayor in next year's elections.
She, however, insisted that politics is not the reason why she filed charges against the two.
She encouraged women who are in a similar situation as her to trust the law and also file charges against their cheating husbands.
Mrs. Amante, meanwhile, also explained why she has not yet signed the papers on annulment filed by the lawmaker. She said many of the allegations stated by her husband in his annulment petition were false.
Mrs. Amante has the support of her husband's sibling, Agusan del Norte Governor Angel Amante-Matba, who said the congressman himself "flaunts his faults."
Amante, for his part, refused to be interviewed as he is still waiting for a copy of raps filed by his wife.
But in a text message, his chief of staff said Mrs. Amante's complaints were baseless and will not stand in court.
"It's laughable, nonsense and an insult to our judicial system. It's politically motivated, pure and simple. Sadly, Judy filed as the result of the instigation from Gov. Angel Matba who is willing to do everything just to destroy Cong. Erlpe Amante and his family. This is all part of the dark Matba politics," said Milky Montante.
Mortola, meanwhile, has yet to issue any statement. -- Report from Rodge Cultura, ABS-CBN News Caraga
