MANILA, Philippines - Mount Bulusan has calmed down after another ash explosion on Sunday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said it only detected 8 volcanic earthquakes on Monday.
"During good visibility, weak emission of white steam from the volcano's crater and known thermal vents was observed drifting towards southeast," Phivolcs said in its bulletin Tuesday morning.
It added that the volcano's sulfur dioxide emission rate on Monday yielded an average value of 10 tons per day.
Alert Level 1 remains in effect over the volcano.
The volcano ejected more ash on Sunday morning, which forced at least 900 residents to evacuate their homes.
Authorities helped the residents during evacuation. Mothers, the elderly and children were the first to be taken from Uban and Irosin and brought to evacuation centers.
Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman said the government is working to provide enough food, medicine and gas masks to the evacuees as well as residents who opted to stay in their homes.
The Phivolcs said the volcano spewed a grayish steam and ash column that reached a height of approximately 2 kilometers above the crater rim on Sunday.
It was one of the bigger ash columns since the volcano began showing signs of restiveness but Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said there is no immediate threat of eruption.
