MANILA - The typhoon spotted east of Samar has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), state weather bureau PAGASA said Sunday.
In its 5 p.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said typhoon Marilyn (international name: In-fa) was located 1,140 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.
It is packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph), with gusts of up to 210 kph. It is expected to move west northwest at 25 kph.
Marilyn is not expected to make landfall.
Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected over Mindanao, Bicol region, eastern and central Visayas, while light rains are expected over Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands.
Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas. Coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
