BATANGAS -- Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto has instructed her staff not to put her name nor her photos on the relief goods intended for the victims of typhoon "Yolanda" in Tacloban, Leyte and Samar areas.

Recto issued the order while organizing a relief and fundraising drive dubbed "Batangueno Kaisa Ninyo."

She said the provincial government, through the Alay Lakad Foundation Inc. - Batangas Province Chapter, will accept cash or check donations for the purchase of basic needs and rehabilitation of the typhoon victims.

"My first instruction to my staff was not to put any photo or names of politicians on the goods, but instead, they can mark it (relief goods) from the people of Batangas," she said.

Netizens have reacted negatively to relief goods sent to typhoon-stricken areas bearing politicians' names and pictures.

The governor instructed all her staff not to accept relief goods from politicians that have their names and pictures.

Last Tuesday, the Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council and the provincial government department heads have all agreed in pooling their resources to raise funds for the typhoon victims.

The group formed a team that will handle the delivery of solicited goods to Tacloban or in Samar by December.

Lianda Bolilia, provincial liaison officer, will lead the group together with other volunteers including representatives from Red Cross, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Office of the Civil Defense, Department of Public Works and Highways, and Armed Forces of the Philippines.

"Our target date in the distribution of goods will be on the second week of December para naman ma-feel ng mga taga-Tacloban at Samar ang spirit of Christmas kahit papaano," Bolilia said.

Bolilia’s group is planning to raise funds for the purchase of blankets, mats, mosquito nets, toiletries, underwear and tarpaulins which will be used for the victims' temporary shelters.

"We discourage our donors in giving food items and used clothes kasi marami na ang mga nagbibigay ng mga yon," she said.

For those who are planning to donate cash or check, they can deposit under the account name - "Batangueno Kaisa Ninyo" – Alay Lakad Foundation, Inc. - Batangas Province Chapter in Philippine National Bank (PNB), Kumintang Ilaya, Batangas City Branch with account number 1830-04736-6.

Meanwhile, the provincial government recently released P3 million in calamity assistance for the victims of typhoon "Sendong" in Batangas province.
