MANILA, Philippines – The pilot of a spray plane was killed after the aircraft crashed into a banana plantation in Panabo City, Davao del Norte Friday morning.

The pilot was identified by authorities as Captain Napoleon Emia.

Emia was rushed to the Rivera Hospital after his aircraft crashed in Purok Durian, Barangay Datu Abdul in Panabo City.

Emia passed away at the hospital.

Authorities said this is the third incident of a spray plane crash in the area.

“Natatakot na talaga kami. Sa amin lang sana kasi alam naman nilang maraming eroplano na silang sira, huwag na sana nilang paliparin pa,” said Malie Maglaos, councilor of Brgy. Datu Abdul.

Panabo City Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

“We are still waiting sa aviation police for the investigation to be conducted by this station,” said Supt. Marvin Manuel Pepino, station commander of Panabo City police station.

The remains of Emia was brought to Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes in Davao City. -- Report from Rodirey Salas, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao
