Female HS student killed in frat initiation in Laguna

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – A 15-year-old high school female student was killed during a fraternity initiation rites in Biñan town in Laguna province Saturday evening, police said

Senior Superintendent Manolito Labador, Laguna police director, identified the victim as Glacy Monique Dimaranan, a high-school student of Lakeshore National High School and a resident of Barangay San Antonio in Biñan.

Arrested meanwhile were Erwin Del Rosario,33, reportedly an adviser of the Scout Royal Brotherhood (SRB) Fraternity, Richard John Layacan, 28 and 4 other reported members of the fraternity who are allegedly also minors.

Two alleged members who reportedly managed to allude arrest and are now the subject of a manhunt were identified as Edwin Salandanan and Liberty Del Rosario. The 2 are reportedly officers of the fraternity.

According to a report, Dimaranan was being subjected to initiation rites when Salandanan allegedly poked a gun to her head. The gun allegedly however accidentally went off. The indicent reportedly occurred around 6:30 p.m. inside No. 228 Miranda Apartment in Barangay San Vicente in Biñan.

The suspects allegedly immediately reported the incident to the police.

Probers reportedly recovered from the incident’s scene a slug from a caliber 9-mm pistol and 4 live bullets from the firearm. Four paddles, a caliber .22 rifle and assorted bullets and illegal drug paraphernalia were allegedly recovered from a suspect’s house in a follow-up operation.

Police said they will file charges of violations of Republic Act 8094 or Anti-Hazing Law against the suspects while the minors will be brought to social welfare and development officials for proper disposition. By Arnell Ozaeta, ABS-CBN News Southern Tagalog
