MANILA - Suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels raided the station of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Caramoan, Camarines Sur on Tuesday morning.

Some 30 suspected NPA rebels attacked the PCG's substation in Guijalo Port at around 10:25 a.m.

No one was hurt in the attack but the rebels seized several firearms and various communication equipment.

PCG operations have been affected by the attack, as its speedboat was strafed by the rebels.

Authorities are now on heightened alert in Caramoan, which has become a popular tourist destination in Camarines Sur.

Classes in elementary and high school were also suspended.

Authorities suspect that the recent NPA attacks in Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte were due to the upcoming elections. – report from Mylce Mella, ABS-CBN News Bicol
