MANILA, Philippines – A strong earthquake that hit Bukidnon on Monday left at least 39 people injured, authorities said.
Several victims were hurt by falling debris in their homes.
According to a report by the Valencia City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), 23 houses were partly damaged due to the quake, which occurred at 5:43 p.m.
Several establishments, including a shopping mall, were also damaged.
The City Engineering Department of Valencia has advised the department store to suspend its operations for safety reasons.
The CDRRMC continues to inspect buildings in Valencia to assess the damage caused by the quake.
A power outage also followed the quake.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was measured at magnitude 5.2 and the epicenter was located near Malaybalay.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was felt at Intensity 5 in Valencia while Intensity 3 was felt in Quezon and Malaybalay, also in Bukidnon.
The quake was felt at Intensity 2 in Cagayan de Oro City and Intenstiy in Mambajao, Camiguin. -- Reports from Primy Cane and Lorenzo Luzon, ABS-CBN News
