BATANGAS - The body of a 3-year-old boy who was among the passengers in a white Honda Civic which fell from the Bridge of Promise after it collapsed in Batangas City at the height of Typhoon “Santi” (international codename Mirinae) was recovered Sunday morning.

Batangas police said the body of Nicolo Soriano was seen at the shoreline of Barangay Tisa in Tingloy Island. It was swept far from the bridge reportedly because of the strong current.

His father Romulo however is still missing.

Residents said Romulo was already safe after the incident but went back into the river to look for his son.

His wife Malou who was rescued by residents hanging on a tree was still recuperating at a hospital.

The members of the Soriano family, residents of Barangay Sampaga, were on their way to Manila when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, the family’s car was recovered Sunday afternoon a few meters away from the bridge that collapsed. Robert Cos, a resident, said that he and some Badjao tribe members dived into the river after smelling gasoline.

They were also searching for a brown van which reportedly also fell into the river.

The relatives of the victims have refused to give a statement on the incident. They said however they were grateful to all those who are helping in retrieving their kin. By Sarita Kare, ABS-CBN Southern Tagalog
