ZAMBOANGA CITY- An official of Civil Aviation Authority in Zamboanga City has confirmed that Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) is finalizing its pre-visibility study for the construction of a new airport.

Celso Bayabos, Zamboanga airport manager, said a dozen officials, Asian Development Bank (ADB) consultants as well as engineers from Davao City are now conducting an ocular inspection on and area of more than 100 hectares of idle land in the east coast which is being eyed as the new site of the airport.
He said however that there is no date as to when the construction of the project would commence. He admitted that DOTC would still have to buy the 102 hectares of property located in an area in barangays Mercedes, Talabaan and Taluksangay.
He said the construction would cost the government an estimated P4 to P5 billion. But this expenditure will be covered by the earnings which DOTC hoped to get from selling the present location of the Zamboanga City International Airport in Barangay Canelar, said Bayabos.
