MANILA - A 55-year-old transgender woman was brutally killed after being robbed inside her own business establishment in Tayabas, Quezon, police said.
Joselito Añonuevo, also known as Joy, was found dead inside her restaurant-bar last Sunday evening.
Police said the victim's body bore at least 33 stab wounds.
Police said they are looking at robbery as the motive behind the killing since Añonuevo's jewelry and earnings, which she kept inside the restaurant-bar, were found missing.
Nonetheless, friends of the victim fear that the killing of Añonuevo is a hate crime.
The incident comes on the heels of the murder of transgender woman Jennifer Laude allegedly by US Marine Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton. -- Report from Ernie Manio, ABS-CBN News Southern Tagalog
