MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) has granted the request of the Department of Justice (DOJ), through Prosecutor General Claro Arellano, for the transfer of the trial of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) members charged for the siege on Zamboanga City.

"The request of the Prosecutor General Arellano requesting for a change of venue was endorsed to the Court en banc which approved the transfer of venue from Zamboanga City to the appropriate Regional Trial Court of Taguig City," SC Public Information Office (PIO) chief Theodore Te said, in a news conference.

The DOJ earlier filed rebellion charges and charges for violations of international humanitarian laws against MNLF founding chairman Nur Misuari, MNLF commander Habier Malik, and 63 others in connection with the recent siege on Zamboanga City.

Justice Secretary Leila De Lima had earlier announced the need for the transfer of the trial's venue for security reasons.
