MANILA - Sarangani Rep. and boxing champion Manny Pacquiao defended Vice President Jejomar Binay amid the allegations of corruption the latter is facing.

Binay arrived in General Santos City on Monday morning, where he was given welcome honors by Pacquiao and other local officials.

Pacquiao hails from General Santos City.

Pacquiao said a real leader focuses on what the people need. He said a real leader will not use others to boost his chances of claiming a higher position.

Binay took the chance to ask the public to persuade Pacquiao to run for senator.

He also noted Pacquiao’s rise in a recent survey.

Pacquiao was non-committal, however.

Binay is expected to stay in the province for a couple of days. He is also expected to go to South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat. – with reports from Jay Dayupay, ABS-CBN News
