MANILA -- The number of families fleeing Mayon volcano's looming eruption continues to rise in Albay.
The Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office said Wednesday that the number of families in evacuation centers has reached 11,982 -- or more than 54,000 individuals.
Residents living around the 8-kilometer extended danger zone in Legazpi, Albay are also preparing to leave their houses if the situation worsens.
If Alert Level 4 is raised, the local government will evacuate around 86,000 residents in 17 barangays southeast of the volcano. -- report from Dexter Ganibe, DZMM
