MANILA, Philippines – Two students died while 70 others were injured when the dump truck they were riding overturned in Purok II, Barangay Itok, Capalonga in Camarines Norte.

The two casualties, identified as 14-year-old Sarah Jane De Mesa and 16-year-old Robert Gomar, died on the spot.

According to initial investigations, over 70 students and teachers of the Gonzalo Aller National High School were riding the dump truck on their way back to school, located in Barangay Alayao, after participating in a sports festival.

But the driver, Joseph Florante Labor, lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn near a downward-sloping part of the road.

Investigations also revealed that the teachers had requested Capalonga Mayor Senandro Jalgalado for a bus, but the mayor instead gave them the dump truck. -- Report from DZMM
