MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III hopes to make public the names of the officers-in-charge of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) before his trip this month to the United States and Japan.
In an ambush interview, Aquino told reporters: "I will have to meet with the search committee also, ang daming names eh. And we want to give everybody a fair hearing. But I want that done as soon as possible. Kung kayang i-target before I leave for both America and Japan, the better.”
Aquino signed last July 28 Executive Order 51, which tasks a screening committee to submit to him a list of names for the positions of regional governor, vice governor and members of the legislative assembly.
This stems from the passage of the Republic Act 10153, which postponed the holding of elections in ARMM and and synchronized it with the May 2013 national and local elections.
Aquino said this is one way of instituting reforms in the impoverished region.
“Ang point lang dito, the sooner na mailagay natin sa gobernador, at iyong Vice Governor at saka iyong Regional Assembly, na talagang babaguhin iyong nakaugalihan na kalakalan ay mas mapapaganda ang sitwasyon natin sa ARMM na mas maaga, iyon ang target po natin,” Aquino added. - report from Willard Cheng, Jorge Cariño, ABS-CBN News
