COTABATO CITY, Philippines - A Chinese businessman was abducted by unidentified armed men in his store in Cotabato City on Monday afternoon.

Nelson Tay, 45, owner of New Asian Marketing, was abducted by unidentified armed men past 5 p.m.

A security guard who was on duty during the abduction said they were about to close their store in Magallanes St. when fully-armed men wearing military uniforms and bonnets rushed toward the entrance of the store.

They pointed a gun at the security guard and Tay's escort who were outside the store and said, "walang kikilos" (don't move).

The kidnappers, who had high-powered firearms, took the guns of the security guard while the other abductor went inside the store where the victim was standing.

The suspects took Tay and fled using their blue van as the get-away vehicle.

The victim's family members refused to talk regarding the incident as they were still in shock.

Authorities immediately conducted pursuit operations and beefed up security all over Cotabato City.

Prior to the incident, the police and the military had received intelligence reports about kidnapping threats targeting businessmen in the city.
