MANILA - A P2 million reward is being offered for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect in the Cagayan de Oro blast which killed eight people and injured at least 40 others.

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno and the Special Investigation Task Group are hoping the reward will help speed up the investigation and the arrest of the suspect behind the bombing at a restaurant in Limketkai Center last Friday.

Moreno said the P2 million will come from the intelligence funds of the city government.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima said they already have "good progress" on the investigation, noting that witnesses have already identified a possible suspect.

"But we still have to verify kung talagang nagtutugma lahat ng statements ng mga witnesses natin," Purisima said in a press briefing Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the PNP chief also reacted to Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas' statement regarding the "lapses" of the Cagayan de Oro police for cleaning up the crime scene and destroying possible evidence that would aid in the investigation.

The PNP chief said he would still have to talk to the the crime processors who handled the case.

"If a crime scene is being handled by crime processors, it will be released to the investigator on the case and the investigator on the case will release the crime scene," he said.

"So ibig sabihin pag narelease na yung crime scene, pwede nang linisin yun," Purisima said. -- With report from Rod Bolivar, ABS-CBN News Cagayan de Oro
