Predawn grenade blast hurts 6 in Iligan

ILIGAN CITY, Philippines - Unidentified men lobbed a grenade into a public market in Iligan City before dawn Friday, leaving 6 civilians wounded.

Police identified the injured victims as Gonzalo Leyar, Rogelio Etiol, Mario LImpangog, Putri Sultan, Caryenio Nono and Numer Tinay.

Senior Superintendent Bernardo Reamon Jr., city police chief, said unidentified men on board a van lobbed the grenade into the public market in Barangay Palao around 3:30 a.m..

Pursuit operations have been launched against the grenade throwers.

Police suspect that the grenade throwers are related to a suspected car thief identified as Pultawan Acub, who was mobbed by civilians after being caught stealing a car at the public market.  -- Reports from Noel Alamar, radio dzMM and Roxanne Arevalo, Iligan
