COTABATO CITY - A firefight erupted between government troops and rebel group Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) on Saturday, two days before Ramadan.
These clashes resulted in six casualties from the government troops’ side. A report from Army's 6th Infantry Division also said seven civilians were wounded.
The encounter took place at Sitio Mapagkaya, Barangay Paidu Polangi, Pikit, North Cotabato at about 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The clash happened in an area covered by troops of the 7th Infantry Battalion, subsequently escalating to areas under the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion.
This was followed by another encounter with the BIFF at Barangay Dasawao, Shariff Saydona Mustapha in Maguindanao, which is under the 45th Infantry Batallion.
BIFF spokesman Abu Misry Mama, in a text message, said there were no casualties on their side.
