SIPALAY CITY, Philippines - Communist rebels have attacked a mining company in Sipalay City in Negros Occidental province, the military said Thursday.
Around 40 New People's Army (NPA) guerrillas raided the compound of Drill Corp, a sub-contractor of Philex Mining Corp., in Nabulao village on Wednesday afternoon, according to Maj. John Andrada, spokesman of the Army's 3rd Infantry Division.
Commander Ceillon, alias Kumpo, led the rebels from the NPA's South West Front, Andrada added.
The rebels disarmed a security guard and torched workers' barracks and a personnel carrier truck, the military added.
They escaped using the company's Toyota Hilux vehicle, which was later found burned and abandoned.
