MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police Maritime Special Boat Unit and the Philippine Coast Guard in Palawan were only able to find the wreckage of the boat Mikaela Yu after it reportedly caught fire while on sea Saturday afternoon.

According to the boat’s captain, the sea vessel’s carburetor suddenly exploded past 1 p.m. while they were sailing off Honda Bay.

The captain said the incident happened so fast that they were not able to secure any of their equipment. They just jumped off the boat.

Initial investigations showed Mikaela Yu was carrying five passengers.

Four of them were already rescued and they were identified as Randy Balangbang, Joel Escoto, Toto Alarcon and Titing Gariales.

Authorities are still searching for the fifth crew, who was identified as Ronel Malinao. -- from a report by Jay Zabanal, ABS-CBN News Palawan
