2 soldiers killed, 1 wounded in NPA attack in Quezon

BATANGAS, Philippines -- Two soldiers were killed in an ambush by 10 suspected New Peoples Army (NPA) rebels in Sampaloc in Quezon province on Wednesday morning.

Philippine Army’s 201st Infantry Brigade reported that members of 3rd Special Forces Company were on their way back to their quarters onboard a "back-to-back" Lite Ace vehicle when attacked by rebels in Sitio Bigaan in Barangay Mamala at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The ambush resulted to the deaths of Corporal Bernabe Ferrer and Private Elden Duran.

Another soldier, Pvt. Randy Balasabas, was also wounded, and is now being treated at Camp Nakar Station Hospital at the Armed Forces of the Philippines Southern Luzon Command.

Meanwhile, 2 M16 automatic rifles were reportedly recovered from the purported rebels. Pursuit operations were conducted after the incident.
