Driver killed as truck falls off San Juanico Bridge

MANILA – A driver was killed and his passenger injured after the 8-wheeler truck carrying them fell off the San Juanico Bridge in Leyte on Friday afternoon.

Authorities identified the driver as a certain Dexter, and his companion was identified as Bitoy Arizo.

The two came from Tacloban City and were headed for Catbalogan City in Samar when the truck’s brakes malfunctioned and swerved out of control at around 4 p.m.

Arizo was able to jump out of truck before it fell into the water.

The driver’s body was recovered by rescuers after an hour. He was brought to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. -- Report from Geron Ponferrada, ABS-CBN News Tacloban
