SOUTH COTABATO -- A young woman died after she was hit by a falling rock while taking pictures at a popular tourist destination in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Ayana Joy Grico, 23, a former disc jockey and beauty queen.

Based on investigation, Grico went to Seven Falls in Lake Sebui with her friends on the day of the incident.

They were taking pictures near Falls Number 2 when a rock fell on Grico's head.

She was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead.

Authorities said the area where the victim and her friends took pictures was partially closed to the public.

Lake Sebu police station head Chief Insp. Henry Biñas said monkeys living on top of the falls may have caused the rocks to move and fall.

The management of Seven Falls said this is the first time that such an incident happened in the area.

Falls Number 2 was temporarily closed to the public following the incident. -- report from Francis Canlas, ABS-CBN News SOKSARGEN
