MAGUINDANAO, Philippines - Ten barangays from the town of Sultan Kudarat in Maguindanao province are still submerged in flood waters due to heavy rains this past few days.

Based on the record of the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DSWS-ARMM), more than 9,000 families have been affected by flood waters.

However, DSWD-ARMM assistant secretary Pombaen Kadir said no evacuation has been recorded so far since most of the residents were already used to the situation.

However, the DSWD-ARMM has prepared 2 evacuation centers in case the situation will get worse.

Last week, the national highway of Salimbao and Bulalo Sultan Kudarat appeared like a river after flood waters overflowed from Simuay river due to heavy rains.

Hundreds of motorists were also stranded for 2 two hours since the road was not passable.

The local government of Sultan Kudarat has been clamouring for the immediate completion of the on-going rechannelling of Simuay river so that flood waters will no longer flow into residential areas and at the national highways of Sultan Kudarat.
