MANILA, Philippines - Newly-elected Ilocos Sur 1st District Rep. Ryan Luis Singson on Monday took his oath of office before the plenary of the House of Representatives.

Singson was accompanied by his family, led by Ilocos Sur Governor Luis Chavit Singson, as well as family friend Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao. Chavit and Pacquiao are known to be close.

Pacquiao joined the Singsons on the rostrum as Ryan Luis took his oath.

Speaker Sonny Belmonte opened the session and administered the oath of office.

Earlier on Monday,  Belmonte said Ryan Luis Singson may be sworn into office as early as today once the HOR secures original documents proclaiming him as the winner of the special election.

In an ambush interview, Ryan said he intends to refile at least 2 bills from his brother’s term, which includes a bill declaring their province a special economic zone and free port.

Ryan also said they have no national party affiliation yet. Ronald was a member of Lakas-Kampi CMD allied with the majority.

Ryan said the last time he spoke to his brother was during the sentencing.

He hasn’t talked to him since. He is also still in the process of forming his legislative agenda.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) held special elections Saturday to elect a replacement for Ryan’s brother Ronald, who resigned last March after being convicted and imprisoned in Hong Kong for drugs trafficking.
