MANILA – A 30-year-old worker of a fishing company died while two others were slightly injured after falling off a speeding boom truck along the highway of Barangay Cawit, Zamboanga City early Friday.
The fatality was identified as Jerry Jubilan, a resident of Barangay Zambowood, Zamboanga City. Jubilan's co-workers, Frank Palao and Antonio Buscato, both sustained minor injuries on the legs.
Truck drive Chris delos Reyes said the lock on the side of the truck went loose when they hit a slightly elevated road approaching a bridge.
The three workers lost their balance and fell from the speeding truck.
Jubilan was run over by the truck, killing him.
Delos Reyes said he already warned their workers to be careful when riding the boom truck as it is not designed for passenger transport.
The truck was apparently overloaded with more than 50 workers on board when the accident happened.
The truck has a net capacity of one thousand kilograms but it can only accommodate three passengers.
The management of the fishing company has extended assistance to the families of the victims.
Police also impounded the truck while delos Reyes was invited to the station for further questioning.
