MANILA, Philippines - The Palace is asking Senate committee on local government Bongbong Marcos to bring the debate on the proposal to postpone the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) elections to the floor for voting.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said it will be a “disservice” to the stakeholders of ARMM to archive the proposal.
“We understand the position of Sen. Bongbong Marcos—he is against the postponement of elections—but it deserves an up or down vote. It deserves to be voted whether for or against so we would hope that Sen. Bongbong Marcos would bring it out on the floor. Bring out his committee report and report it out on the floor and let the entire Senate body decide on the bill itself and not unilaterally allow the bill to be archived. Let the senators debate on it. If he’s confident that it will be voted down, then so be it. But let’s have an up or down votes,” Lacierda said.
“There are stakeholders here, not only of one senator but the entire ARMM population, that it deserves a vote in the Senate… It would be a disservice to the stakeholders in ARMM to let the bill go to be archived… Let it be heard in the Senate, so we would urge Sen. Bongbong Marcos: Bring out the committee report and let it be voted. It deserves an up or down vote,” he added.
