MANILA, Philippines - A Cessna plane crash-landed at the Davao International Airport Friday morning, authorities said.

Initial investigation showed that the single-seater spray aircraft had just taken off when it suddenly encountered engine trouble, causing it to crash on the runway at around 8 a.m.

The pilot, identified as Capt. Jose Bugarin Jr., was unharmed in the incident.

The plane with tail number RP-R1425 is owned by Mactan Aviation Technology Center Inc.

It is used for spraying pesticides over banana plantations in the Davao region.

Authorities said Bugarin was supposed to conduct a test flight when the incident occurred.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is still investigating the incident. -- Report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
